At Horbury Primary Academy, every child belongs, every child matters and every child is encouraged to flourish.
We are a warm, ambitious and inclusive school where children are inspired to learn, encouraged to be themselves and supported to discover what they can achieve. We have high expectations for every child and believe that great education is about developing not only knowledge and skills, but also the confidence, character and resilience to succeed in life.
Our broad and ambitious curriculum gives children the opportunity to explore, create, question, challenge themselves and discover their passions. Alongside strong academic foundations, we place great importance on developing the whole child – nurturing curiosity, independence, perseverance and a genuine love of learning.
Our dedicated staff know our children well and work together to create a school where children feel safe, happy, valued and excited to come to school each day. Through our PRIDE values – Perseverance, Risk Taking, Independence, Determination and Enthusiasm – we encourage every child to aim high, embrace challenge and take pride in who they are and what they achieve.
We want children to leave Horbury not simply ready for their next stage of education, but ready for life – confident, compassionate, curious and with the belief that they can make a difference.
The children loved visiting St Mary’s Church for our Harvest celebrations on Tuesday. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to see the impact of generosity and understand the importance of coming together as a community to make a difference to others. Thank you so much to everyone who was able to support us with donations of food for this special day. 💚
✏️⭐WOW Writing ⭐✏️
This half-term, we’re putting a strong emphasis on high-quality work, with particular attention to handwriting, presentation and the quality of children’s written content.
It was fantastic to see so many brilliant examples across school today. From beautifully presented books to thoughtful, carefully crafted pieces, our children are showing real PRIDE in their learning.
Here are just a few examples of the fantastic work Mr Tucker spotted on his walk around school this morning — and there is plenty more to celebrate!
We want every book at Horbury to show children trying their very best, responding to feedback and taking pride in what they produce.

On Monday, some of our Year 6 children had a great time taking part in a tag rugby competition against several other schools in Wakefield. They played brilliantly and secured third place overall, as well as receiving ‘Most Improved Team’. 🏅
We are so proud of their excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. Well done team HPA! 💚💛

And that's a wrap for another fantastic school year!
As we reach the end of term, we would like to take a moment to celebrate all that has been achieved this year. Our children have worked incredibly hard, embraced new opportunities, developed their skills and friendships, and made us proud every step of the way.
Thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families and, of course, our wonderful pupils for making our school such a special place to learn and grow.
We wish all of our children and families a happy, safe and relaxing summer break.
