Welcome from the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Visitors,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Horbury Primary Academy.

At Horbury, we believe that every child deserves to feel that they belong, to be proud of who they are and to have the opportunity to achieve their very best. We are a warm, ambitious and inclusive school community where children are known, valued and encouraged to grow in confidence every day.

Our vision is simple: people belong, place matters and purpose lasts. We want every child to feel a strong sense of belonging, to take pride in themselves, their school and their community, and to develop the knowledge, character and confidence they need to make a positive difference in the world.

We have high expectations for every child, while recognising that every child is unique. Our commitment to inclusive education means that we work hard to understand each learner and remove barriers to their success. We celebrate difference, nurture individual strengths and provide the support, challenge and encouragement children need to flourish. Whatever a child’s starting point, we want them to leave us knowing that they can achieve great things.

A place where children love to learn

Learning at Horbury goes far beyond simply preparing children for the next stage of their education. We want children to be curious, confident and enthusiastic learners who develop a genuine love of discovering new things.

Our broad and ambitious curriculum gives children the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, while providing rich opportunities to explore, question, create, perform, problem-solve and think deeply. Alongside strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics, we place great value on the arts, science, humanities, sport, technology and the wider experiences that help children understand themselves and the world around them.

We also know that education is about developing the whole child. Through our values of Perseverance, Risk Taking, Independence, Determination and Enthusiasm – our PRIDE values – we help children develop the character and resilience they need to face challenges, learn from mistakes and become increasingly independent.

The Horbury Way

Our school is built on strong relationships and a shared sense of community. We want children to feel safe, happy and proud to be part of Horbury.

We believe that kindness, respect and high expectations go hand in hand. The Horbury Way is about doing the right thing, looking after one another, taking pride in our surroundings and always striving to be the best that we can be.

Our dedicated staff are passionate about making a difference. They combine expertise, care and ambition to ensure that every child receives the very best education and opportunities. We are incredibly proud of the relationships we build with our children and the trust that exists between our school, our families and our wider community.

More than a school

We want children to leave Horbury with much more than a set of academic results. We want them to leave with memories, friendships, confidence, curiosity and a belief in themselves.

From the moment children join us, we provide opportunities for them to discover their talents, develop new interests, take on responsibilities and experience success. Whether that is through sport, music, performance, leadership, educational visits, enrichment opportunities, clubs or simply the everyday moments that make primary school so special, we want every child to find something that makes them excited to come to school.

We also believe strongly in working in partnership with our families. Parents and carers are an important part of our school community, and we value the contribution they make to their children’s education and to school life. By working together, communicating openly and sharing high expectations, we can give our children the strongest possible foundations for the future.

If you are considering Horbury Primary Academy for your child, I hope our website gives you a flavour of what makes our school such a special place. We would always encourage prospective families to come and see us for themselves, meet our children and staff, and experience the warmth, ambition and energy of our school community.

Whether you are a prospective family, a current member of our school community or simply visiting our website, you are very welcome at Horbury Primary Academy.

We are incredibly proud of our school and all that our children achieve. Most importantly, we are proud of the children themselves – who they are, how they grow and the people they are becoming.

Strong roots. Growing minds. A community where every child belongs and every child can flourish.

I hope you enjoy exploring our website and discovering more about Horbury Primary Academy.

Warm regards,

Mr James Tucker
Principal
