Mental Health & Wellbeing

At Horbury Primary Academy, we are deeply committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of everyone in our school community, including children, staff, governors, parents and carers. We recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health and that both are crucial to our overall wellbeing. Good mental health is essential for our children’s learning, development and achievement, and we strive to create an environment where mental wellbeing is prioritised and nurtured.

Our core aim is to ensure that every member of our school community feels valued, respected, and supported. We are a caring, inclusive community where mutual trust and respect form the foundation of all that we do. We understand that children, like adults, can experience challenges and emotional ups and downs, and we are dedicated to providing the support needed to help them navigate these moments.

We believe that positive mental health is everyone’s responsibility. We all have a role to play in creating a supportive environment where children feel safe, heard, and understood. At Horbury Primary, our Mental Health and Wellbeing team is at the heart of this effort. They are the first point of contact for anyone experiencing mental health concerns or who simply needs someone to talk to.

The members of our team are specially trained to support mental health and wellbeing, spotting signs of emotional distress and offering the necessary guidance. Whether it’s a child or an adult, our team is here to listen, reassure, and respond to individual needs, ensuring that no one faces mental health challenges alone. They work to prevent issues from escalating, helping individuals access the support they need before difficulties become more serious.

Our goal is to foster a school community where looking after mental health is seen as a natural and essential part of life, just like caring for our physical health. We are committed to helping our children and staff develop the skills and resilience to maintain good mental health and ensure that everyone feels empowered to seek help when needed.

Together, we aim to build a future where mental wellbeing is valued and supported in every aspect of school life.

Pastoral Care, Guidance and Support

Your child’s well being and happiness is of the utmost importance to us at Horbury Primary Academy. We aim to promote the health and happiness of all the children and families within our school community. We are a point of contact for families, offering confidential support and advice during challenging times, such as, family separation, bereavement, divorce, health worries and so on.

We have a wide range of resources and outside agency contacts who we work very closely with. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see Mrs Sleight or a member of the Designated Safeguarding Team if you would like a confidential chat.
